PhotoSizeCheck

About PhotoSizeCheck

PhotoSizeCheck is a free tool that resizes and compresses photos to the pixel size and file size that passport, visa, exam and ID card applications ask for. It also has general print sizes (such as 2 x 2 inch or 35 x 45 mm) and a tool that compresses any image to a KB limit.

Who runs this site

PhotoSizeCheck is an independent website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any government, embassy, consulate, passport office or exam body. Names of countries, agencies and exams appear only to say which requirement a page covers. Using this site does not submit anything to any authority; you download the finished file and upload it to the official application yourself.

Where the requirements come from

Each passport, visa, exam and ID card page is based on a requirement published by the authority that sets it. The sources include:

Every one of these pages links to its source and shows the date we last checked it. The general print-size pages and the KB compressor are not tied to a single authority, so they have no source link.

How each size is checked

For every requirement we read the official page or notice and record the pixel dimensions, the minimum and maximum file size in KB, the print size and the background it asks for. Many pages also quote the key sentence from the source word for word. Some rules need a decision, and the page says what we did:

A requirement we have not yet checked against its official source shows a warning and is kept out of search engines until it is verified. Rules change with new notices, so always confirm the current requirement on the linked official page before you submit.

How the tool works

The tool crops your photo to the required shape, draws it at the exact pixel size, and then picks the highest JPEG quality that still fits the KB limit. If a form sets a minimum file size, it keeps the file above it. The face position, face size and background checks are automatic estimates: they do not judge lighting, expression or every official rule, so a passing check is not a guarantee that your photo will be accepted.

All of this runs in your browser. Your photo is not uploaded, stored or shared. The face detection and background removal models are downloaded from this site to your browser and run on your device. See the privacy policy for details.

Report a mistake
