Visa Photo Sizes

Official photo sizes for visa applications, with the pixels and file size each online form accepts.

Visa photo rules differ more than people expect. Most countries use a 35 x 45 mm print, but the US uses a 2 x 2 inch square, China asks for 33 x 48 mm, and online forms such as the US DS-160 or the China visa form add their own pixel and KB limits on top.

Common rejection reasons: a file over the form's KB limit, the wrong shape (square vs portrait), a head that is too small or too large in the frame, a background that is not plain and light, glasses where they are not allowed, and a photo older than the rules allow (often 6 months).
